“A chef just needs to like food and enjoy eating. There’s little more to cooking and it took me a while to realize that.”

The Man Behind the Curtain, a name that nods to both The Wizard of Oz and a heavy metal song by Valient Thorr, is Michael O’Hare’s bold expression of individuality and aesthetic. Though the presentations are visually striking, the elements of surprise are not for the sake of shock value. The food is based on a simple philosophy – a focus on familiar flavors, a combination of ingredients that tastes good, presented in an interesting way.

Emancipation  (2014)

The dish inspired is by the British seaside classic fish and chips. Based on Michael's hometown, the darkness represents the industrial background of the northeast.
